Information about the fiber artist Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist and illustrator who is based in Baltimore. I relocated to Baltimore for school at Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) which is where Nicole Mueller and I met and began to become friends. It was before that we began our Beyond the Studio podcast together. Over the last nine years I've built up my art-related business, a small one close Call Studio in which I am employed full time.

What would you say about your style?

My approach to art making, whether it's sewing, drawing or anything else is non-self-conscious designed to please and inspire others. My style can be moody or direct and some of my work can be kinda introspective, yet there's always some humor and playfulness involved.

What's the secret to making your art?

It changes from season to year, however having the mindset that is "no stress" when working in my studio is absolutely key to me at the moment. I've always put a great deal of pressure on myself that didn't show positively on my work or life so creating the space to relax and enjoy gardening are just as imperative for me as sitting down to draw.
