We inquired with Titika about the key to the mysterious black and white photographs
"My moniker is Titika Rotkjaer. I'm an artist hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. After studies in communication in Roskilde University, Denmark, I transferred to Norway to further my studies in visual art beginning at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and later, in Bergen, where I finished my visual art studies at Bergen Academy of Art and Design and earned an MA in textile Art. I have no formal education in photography. My understanding of photography and editing comes from continuous education on my own.
Do you want to know about my personal style? Would I like to discuss the way I express myself instead? It's not my thing to think about fashion... In telling stories from a poetic and personal perspective In each photograph I concentrate on mood, expression, the mood. Developing how my images appear is a procedure. My goal is always to improve and clear the meaning. In some instances, I redo old photographs in the event that I acquire new information which allows me to get closer to the image I had in mind.
What is the secret to the mysterious images I have created ...? In most of my images which I've made in the last four years, I've been exploring the complexity and the self, with a special interest in the connection between both the outer and inner worlds. Some of my photographs are not necessarily the same. consist of digitally manipulated images (all obviously, shot by me).
My approach usually begins with an intrigue or interest in exploring a topic or a complex of emotions. I take pictures, make notes and read to gain more knowledge, and shoot again. Making use of the photos often leads me to construct an entirely new image from several others. I work experimentally, subjectively as well as intuitively with themes to let the images develop. I don't have a clear vision of the final product to my eye, and I then photograph the elements that construct it."
