What is your background?

"My moniker is Sylvia Boomer Yang. I'm an illustrator animator, and GIF artist based in Brooklyn, New York. For my professional work, I create motion graphics, animated illustrations and storyboards for explainers, videos, and mobile apps. What I enjoy doing on the side is to make fun and quirky cartoons and stickers that make people smile, and allow them to be themselves."

"I was born in Taiwan and started with the fine arts school as a child. I always enjoyed drawing, but I began to be stymied with a traditional educational method. I was feeling like I couldn't express my own personality and voice through the conventional techniques that art uses. Learning about fine art certainly helped me build the foundation for where I am now."

"I switched to design school in college and moved into New York for grad school. It was then that I began to experiment using animations and digital art. Animation has given me the power to combine illustrations and motion in order to convey a message with a lively method. I really enjoyed exploring how to bring still images to life."

What is the key in creating your animation graphic?

"I love to work with an empathetic sense and strong emotions that help people feel connected, using different media, and creating a unique design style. Making designs can be a lot of enjoyable!"

"Collaboration/teamwork is one of the keys I evaluate a lot. I like how individuals generate ideas in the team, and also believe that great work usually is made by a collection comprised of individuals with different strengths and skill sets.

In daily life, I'm always creating new things that keep me inspired. When not designing or making motion-based graphics, I'll find myself making chaos in my kitchen (lots in cooking) as well as making craft projects. I frequently travel to Brooklyn market and try my hand using various recipes at the kitchen table at. The world is full of amazing things. I am a sucker exploring diverse communities, cultures and innovative artwork."
