The wax for candles is available in flakes or chips. They are offered in various sizes, however one pack will generally be enough for a candle or two projects. These candle-making directions will require 1 lb wax.
Candle Wick
It's the portion of the candle that burns. It's important to find a wick long enough to fit into the container you've selected. Look for wicks which come with a tab--the rectangular, circular piece of metal that connects the wick to the jar. This makes the assembly process easier.
Fragrance Oil
If you're making a scented candle it is a crucial ingredient. The concentrated fragrance oils specifically designed for candles is your ideal choice. You could also use essential oils, although you should use less, and the scent may not be as strong. Choose your favorite scent, whether that's lavender, rose, or patchouli.
Hot Glue
Then, you'll have to glue your wick in a secure manner on the top of the Jar. A glue gun is ideal to accomplish this.

Soy Candles
Soy candles are made using soybean oil that has been processed. They're generally less dense than other candles, so they're typically placed in a container, rather than being made as in a free-standing.
Unscented Candles
Candles that are unscented provide ambience and illumination but without the scent. If you're sensitive to fragrances or dislike strong smells, unscented candles are a good option. It's not difficult to figure out how to make candles that aren't scented, too--just follow the steps below and leave out the fragrance oil.

How to Make Scented Candles
First Step: Take Measurements Your Wax
Measure out one pound of wax (in chip or flake form) with the scales in your kitchen. Place the wax in the pitcher.
Step 2: Make the Double Boiler
Make sure to fill the pot up with about an inch or so of water. Place it on the stove top at a medium temperature. Place the pitcher of wax in the pot.
Step 3: Make the container, and then stick it to the Wick
While the wax is melting within the double boiler prepare your jar. Turn on the plug and then heat your glue gun, then place the wick on the interior of the jar. How can you ensure that the wick in the right spot while glue is setting, you ask? Make use of a clothespin to ensure that the wick is centered like in the image in the above image.
Step 4: Determine the temperature of the Wax.
When the wax is completely melted in the double cooker, take the pitcher off the heat source and put your thermometer inside the melt. It should be approximately 185 by this time.
Five Steps: Take a Measure and then add the fragrance oil
Include one ounce of scent oil for every pound of wax. Take the appropriate amounts with a measuring spoon and add it to the melted wax. Mix everything together using the metal spoon. Aim for 15-20 stirs every time to ensure everything is mixed together well.
Step 6: Cool the Wax
After mixing the fragrance oil into the wax, put the thermometer in the wax. Check the temperature continuously until it's about 125--the optimum pouring temperature.
Step 7: Pour the wax into the Jar
Pour the wax slowly into the jar with the clothespin attached to the wick to make sure it is in place.
Step 8: Wait for the Wax to Cool and Cut the Wick
Wait for the wax to be cool. This will likely require a couple of hours. Remove the clothespin and trim the wick to leave one tiny tuft that emerges from the top of the candle. Now your candle is ready to light!
