When Pooja Bavishi made the decision to establish her ice-cream business, Malai, she did so with a clear, personal vision. "I created Malai in order to honor the tastes I grew up with as a young Indian American in a popular and mainstream way," she says.

"Everyone is a victim of an ice cream moment from their childhood which is usually related to visiting your local ice cream store for a treat and a cup of ice cream with beloved family members," Pooja says. The nostalgia infusion can be seen in Malai from a stand at market halls and food markets in the local area into freezers at grocery stores, pop-up carts around New York City, and an enticing flagship shop located in Brooklyn offering local and national delivery.
