The journey of brick and mortar businesses to existence
The idea of opening a salon to cater for curly hair was a dream for Nia's. "I often went to America to get my hair done. be done because it was difficult to locate a salon located in London, let alone that in the UK," she says. "I wanted to create something that made me feel secure, calm, as well as reflected visually the things I wanted to be when I was a little girl." People reacted to her ideas. When the books opened at the Curl Bar the bar, appointments soon filled up.
"Your lifestyle changes when you start to set up an business. Check if you're prepared for this change." Nia offers advice to business owners who want to start their own. Nobody could have imagined how much change would soon come to Nia as well as the Curl Bar: Only three months after its opening and the bar had to shut down indefinitely due to COVID-19's shut downs that were taking place in the UK. But even an indefinite pause in operation didn't stop Nia from moving forward.
"I had no formula for expanding the company and definitely not during the case of an outbreak," she says. "I simply view every moment as a lesson to be learned from." While The Curl Bar was closed, Nia shifted her focus on the internet, interacting with her stylists and her fans online until the salon was able to safely open again.
