In January of 2020 Nia Pettitt has officially opened the doors to the Curl Bar, an establishment which caters to curls, located in London. Nia's vision for the salon did not only revolve around the desire to make clients feel beautiful, but offering an environment that allows each customer to feel embraced and admired.

The brick-and-mortar company's journey to existence

The idea of opening a salon for hair with curly locks was a longtime wish of Nia's. "I often traveled across America for my hair styled because it was difficult to find a salon even in London or even within the UK," she says. "I wanted to make something that was secure as well as relaxing, which also depicted my vision visually when I was a little girl." The customers reacted to my vision as they walked through the doors of The Curl Bar, appointments soon filled up.

"Your life is changed once you take the step to launch your own business. Consider if you're willing to make the necessary modifications," Nia advises aspiring business owners. No one could have predicted the kind of changes that were coming for Nia and The Curl Bar. Just two months after its opening, the salon was temporarily shut down as a result of closures to COVID-19 within the UK. But even a brief halt in operation didn't stop Nia from expanding.

"I did not have a plan for growing the business or in the event of a outbreak," she says. "I take each day as a lesson to take away from." As The Curl Bar was closed, Nia shifted her focus on the internet and kept in touch with her stylists and her customers digitally until The salon was allowed to safely return to business.
