In the month of January, Nia Pettitt officially opened The Curl Bar, the salon for curly hair situated in London. The salon's concept by Nia was not just about making clients feel gorgeous, but offering the opportunity to all customers be embraced and admired.

The brick-and-mortar company's journey to the next level

A hair salon that has curly locks has always been an ambition of Nia's. "I frequently traveled across America to have my hair cut due to the difficulty to find a hair salon in London and even in within of the UK," she says. "I determined to create an experience that felt relaxed, at ease and reflected what I would wish for as a younger girl." Customers were overwhelmingly supportive of her idea. When the books opened at The Curl Bar The appointments were booked quickly.

"Your life is going to change once you decide to open your own business. Ask yourself if you are ready for that change," Nia advises aspiring business owners. Nobody could have anticipated the magnitude of the change soon to be coming for Nia as well as The Curl Bar just three months after debut, the eatery had to shut down temporarily because of COVID-19 closures in the UK. The fact that there was a complete stop to the operations of Nia didn't deter it from continuing to grow.

"I did not have a formula for how for expanding the company or even in the event of the pandemic," she says. "I simply see each moment as an opportunity for me to grow beyond." As The Curl Bar was closed, Nia shifted her focus on social media, communicating with her stylists as well as her followers through social media until the salon could be able to reopen.
