Information about the fiber artist, Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber-artist and illustrator who is based in Baltimore. I relocated to Baltimore for school at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) which is where Nicole Mueller and I met and began to become friends. It was before that we launched Beyond the Studio. Beyond the Studio podcast together. Over the last nine years I've worked hard to build my own small business in the field of art called close Call Studio where I work full time.

What would you say about your personal style?

My art style, whether it's sewing, drawing or drawing is not self-conscious, designed to please and inspire people. My style can be moody or clear and my art can appear introspective, yet there's always an element of humor and fun to be found.

What is the key to making your art?

The process varies from season to season but currently holding the mindset of "no pressure" in the studio is absolutely key to me at the moment. I've been a huge amount of stress on myself, which did not reflect well in my work or the rest of my life. Creating spaces for relaxation and garden is just as important for my work when I sit down to draw.
