When I'm free I like to do 30 mins to 1 hour study or explorations, where I do what I think I'm feeling that day. It was a huge help in my development, however it also made me realize which things I liked.
Nowadays, I like to pay attention to color, light, and also how to describe things in a way that is simple so that I don't need to go overboard on all of it. I tend to maintain my designs as close as possible to what I see in real life however, in the future I'm hoping to push shapes more and also be more stylized in my work.
If I begin a painting, usually I like laying out the basic shapes first either in BW or straight in the color. If I feel it's necessary, I start with linework initially. When I've got a solid basis, I will map on the light and shadows on layers. Not until then do I create or render the image, usually going from big to the smallest of details.
In the Streets of London painting I employed a similar method. To ensure clear edges and to keep the painting organized I used a lot of layers. Additionally, I had the main light on another layer.
The layers make me less worried about making mistakes. But once I feel comfortable with the stage I'm in with my painting, I begin to merge some aspects, while keeping only what I feel is essential.
For me, colours are much a "feel" thing, I go with the one that feels good. Also, I have a number of reference sources that I look at for help in choosing the perfect colours. Sometimes I combine references, and at sometimes I just use one.
It's definitely beneficial to study the theory of light and colour, to know the limits you can do to make your general colour scheme and value more pronounced.
It's a bit difficult for me to say what the most important thing I do to create my work... I just like to explore diverse styles, techniques, as well as subject matter and be inspiration from others artists.
I'm still so early in my art journey and continue to try to discover my identity as an artist, and my personal style. The main difference these days is I don't think about it as much as I used to , and I believe that's made a lot of difference.
My Background
My name is Bjork and I'm a Visual artist. I'm currently working as a Concept artist for games.
I'm from a small island called"the Faroe Islands and have always been creative in some way either via drawing, storytelling, or whatever. I received a bachelor's degree in CG arts at The Animation workshop in Viborg, Denmark, in 2019 and began my first position in London later that year.
Nowadays, I'm mainly working as a concept artist at Envar Studios but also do occasionally freelance work.
It's true that I'm generally more than active on Twitter than Instagram. In case anyone wants to purchase prints, I offer prints on Instagram.
