Authenticity in art - The CreativeMindClass Blog

Being connected to your inner self; the deep nature of who a person is.

Angela Maria Sierra, a Spanish-born artist, portrays true self and emotions she is experiencing. The result is in the form of characters with deep emotional lives, full of sensitivity to ease and pleasure.

Her name is more well-known in the art world as Riso Chan - the portrait artist as well as an art teacher currently living in The Netherlands. She just started her new artistic journey with videos and her very own YouTube channel! This is something she's was wishing to do for quite a lengthy period of. Bravely storming through uncomfortable conversations with a camera, she released the video that was fun to watch about her, her work, as well as her surroundings for creativity.

Artist Vlog - Riso Chan

Riso Chan about embracing her authentic self in artwork:

My work is very emotionally charged. My work is based on portraits of the feelings I am feeling. My entire life, I have been a sensitive and sensitive person. From the time I was a kid there was something which always made me feel uneasy and I attempted to put it down. (...) When you get older, you realise that actually you're not alone and that everyone experiences different. I chose to channel my emotional energy that I have to my daily life and start painting. I draw on it to stimulate my creativity and to spark fresh ideas. That is amazing because something that I was trying to push down for all of my life, all of a sudden, I put on a sheet of paper and it felt like such a release. There is finally an area where I am able to use this sensitivity, I can utilize these feelings as well as joys, sorrows and feelings and write them down. It felt really awesome and led me to a place that was filled with gratitude. The experience began to resonate with a number of others too. I was opening to putting ideas onto paper that I had did not think of prior to. As opposed to trying to look similar to other artists who had already "made it" I was really listening on what I would like to say and who I am as an individual. I embraced something that I was not happy with about myself and I realised it is actually my superpower. I'm really content being my authentic, sensitive self.
