"Art as a means of escape" CreativeMindClass Blog CreativeMindClass Blog

I'm originally of Venezuela. I was raised in a place that was extremely tropical, surrounded by mountains and palm trees. However, I sadly wasn't permitted to fully explore my environment fully (partly because of my parents' overprotection and due to anxiety in my home country). The majority of my time was watching television or reading became my preferred means of entertainment as well as drawing! I would spend hours drawing the characters I loved most from anime, along with my family, friends and pets that I was not allowed to keep, costumes as well as all sorts of other things.

It was basically a hobby, and I was somewhat sure that I wouldn't go beyond Venezuela. My family made the decision to relocate to the UK which changed the course of my life for me. When I was a teenager I finally had the opportunity to go on excursions alone and consider what I'd like to achieve.

My love of stories and characters prompted me to read comics that, later, led me into the world of illustration. All the pieces were put together. After a couple of years of study (and many hours of work) I'm now freelance as an illustrator based in London.

My style is distinctive, playful and, sometimes even a little messy (in an excellent manner!). It's not always difficult however, it is often complicated. But, each illustration features an individual human figure, an animal, or an amazing work of art. Every illustration I've observed is part of the same worldwide.

The most important factor is having amusement playing with it. It's simple to imagine what I was interested in during my first years as young children: vibrant colors and charming characters, hilarious circumstances, and small pieces of information that might get lost. The aim of my work is to bring out all these aspects in my designs in the best way I am able to. If I am able to inspire viewers to feel excited or happy, or think that they've discovered something that is novel, it's a positive indicator. I've achieved the goal I have set for myself.

"Another essential element that I'm trying to find is the ability to laugh. I've realized over the years that I'm not the right artist to produce elaborate or abstract art, but I'm fairly adept in creating lighthearted art which can put a smile on people's faces. My strengths are in the areas I am working on currently."
