Art and authenticity - The CreativeMindClass Blog
The process of connecting to your authentic self, the core of who one is.
Angela Maria Sierra, a Spanish-born artist, portrays true herself and the emotions she's going through. The result is in the form of figures with rich emotional lives that are full of compassion, ease, and joy.
She is known to the art world as Riso Chan, who is a portrait artist and an artist who is currently a teacher in The Netherlands. The artist is about to begin her creative journey through videos as well as her own creative YouTube channel! This was something she's always was wishing to do for a very lengthy time. Bravely storming through uncomfortable conversations with a camera, she released a fun-to-watch video about herself, her work, and her creative surroundings.
Riso Chan talks about accepting her authentic self in artwork:
My work is very emotional. I work on portraits which depict the emotions that I feel. I have always been a sensitive individual. When I was young I've had a feeling which always made me feel uneasy and I attempted to ignore it. (...) As you grow, you realise that actually everything is fine and everybody feels different. I chose to channel all the emotional energy I bring to my everyday life and start painting. It is a way to boost my imagination and spark new ideas. This is astonishing because of something that I was striving to get rid of all day, all of a sudden, I put on a piece of paper and was like a huge release. There is finally the possibility to use this sensitivity, I can use these emotions, pains, and joys and write them down. This was a truly amazing experience and led me back to my place where I felt grateful. The experience began to resonate with a lot of people too. I was opening to putting ideas on paper that I have never considered previously. In lieu of trying to look the same as other artists who have were already "made it", I really tuned to what I want to express and the person I am as an individual. I took on something that I didn't like about myself and I realised it is actually my superpower. I am really happy being my authentic, sensitive self.
