What to learn Ukulele Music

If you're trying to learn an ukulele new song then the web can be your ideal resource. Just search for the name of the song plus "ukulele chords" or "ukulele tabs," and you'll more than likely discover what you're looking for.

Before we begin our list of ukulele songs, let's take a quick glance at the distinction between tabs and chords.

Ukulele Tablature

To read tabs, simply think of the four lines as the four strings of your ukulele when you're looking down on it. The upper line on the tab symbolizes string A while the bottom line is string G.

The numbers that appear on the lines represent the frets you'll need to be pressing on the strings. If they're over each others, then you'll have to play the strings in the same order. If they're staggered you'll play them one after one after the one. Keep the fact that tabs do not specify the time or the rhythm of the string to be played--you'll need to listen to the song to figure this out.

Ukulele Chords

As opposed to tabs, the chords remain the same whether you want to play the ukulele, guitar piano, or another instrument. What's different is the chord shape, so after you've identified the song's chords, be sure to look up an appropriate chord chart to show you how to play them with the Ukulele.

Most resources will also indicate a strumming pattern and/or the lyrics where the chords should be performed. If they don't it, just listen to the song to figure this out.

If the chords you find can be a bit difficult to play, try transposing them to easier ones by using a capo so that they remain in the original key.
